Suarez pays tribute To Ferreira

Luis Suarez paid tribute to the late Walter Ferreira, a Uruguay Physiotherapist that played a vital role in helping the striker recover from a severe knee injury. Suarez had a month to recover from a knee injury that he sustained during training. Ferreira’s treatment healed the player and he was able to play in the 2014 word cup in Brazil. The Physio was nicknamed the “Holy Hand”. In fact Ferreira cut short his cancer treatment to treat Suarez’s injury at the world cup.

Ferreira was admitted to the Spanish Association Hospital in a serious condition, as his health had deteriorated. He lost his battle with cancer and passed away at the age of 64. Suarez paid tribute to the national team physio.

Suarez said on Facebook and Instagram “Today we lost more than a friend … a fighter who, day by day, not only fought for himself but for everyone else,…“I’ll never forget what you did for me, because you taught me many things in life, which I still have present. Thank you for the opportunity to play a World Cup. Thank you for all you gave football and thanks for what a great human being you were.

He went on to say “I’ll never forget. My deepest condolences to the family. Rest in peace, WALTER.”

Suarez also stated ‘There are people who know how crucial it was for me to have their support. If it wasn’t for him (Ferreira) I would not have been here.

Although Ferreira worked with Uruguayan Team Club Nacional de football, he treated many players from all around the world.
